A Letter from the Chapter President
Greetings and welcome to the official website of the Infamous Iota Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
We were the first Black sorority chartered on the campus of UNC Charlotte by 13 phenomenal women. The Iota Rho Chapter engages in activities that support the sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical & Mental Health, and Political Awareness & Involvement.
The chapter’s year-long initiative for the 2025–2026 academic year is The RIPple Effect, in partnership with the nonprofit organization For the Struggle. This initiative reflects our commitment to standing in solidarity with communities impacted by systemic injustice and generational challenges.
Through ongoing efforts such as the Elder Response Initiative and SaluteU, we are working to uplift both our elders and our youth.
The Elder Response Initiative, launched in 2020, provides seniors with vital services including estate planning, property tax relief, critical home repairs, legal support, healthy meals, and eco-friendly home upgrades. These resources help combat displacement, preserve generational wealth, and address environmental and housing inequalities in historically Black neighborhoods.
SaluteU, created in memory of Umar “Salute” Muhammad, serves youth impacted by or at risk of involvement with the criminal system. The program offers mentorship, job training, therapy, academic support, and structured personal development to help participants build new paths forward.
Together, this initiative embodies our chapter’s dedication to community empowerment, intergenerational care, and the ongoing fight for justice.
You are encouraged to visit the website of the Iota Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to learn about other upcoming programs. My sisters and I look forward to serving the campus and the greater Charlotte community this school year.
