A Letter from the Chapter President
Greetings and welcome to the official website of the Infamous Iota Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
We were the first Black sorority chartered on the campus of UNC Charlotte by 13 phenomenal women. The Iota Rho Chapter engages in activities that support the sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical & Mental Health, and Political Awareness & Involvement.
The chapter’s year-long initiative for the 2024-2025 academic year is REDefining Maternal Care, which aims to provide support for Care Ring, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing health services for the uninsured, underinsured, or those lacking access to affordable, high-quality preventive care. Care Ring has several community programs working with pregnant and postpartum women living in poverty in underserved communities to improve maternal and child health.
Throughout the year, the Iota Rho Chapter will collect monetary donations for Care Ring. The funds raised will support the organization’s annual Holiday Stroll, which provides warm blankets, books, and child development toys for families in need, as well as the 2025 Black Maternal Health Conference. In kind donations such as diapers, wipes, and other baby essentials will be collected throughout the school year. In addition to monetary donations, the chapter will also assist with numerous volunteer opportunities to support the organization’s maternal health programming.
You are encouraged to visit the website of the Iota Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to learn about other upcoming programs. My sisters and I look forward to serving the campus and the greater Charlotte community this school year.
